Well a big shame on me! It's been over a year since I last posted on my blog. My new set of Siserlocks are now a year old. It's been quite a journey getting used to itty bitty locks but I am pleased to say that they are coming along nicely.
As usual I can't stay away from color so I have colored them, about a month ago with Textures and Tones. I really like the results. Pictures are following soonest, I promise. Along with more regular blog postings.

New Year, New Me...Here we Go!

So, I'm finally making my first post this year and we are already in April. Shame on me. Happy Easter every one.
Well I did it and really went for the big chop just before the end of last year. I cut off my Sisterlocks of nearly 6 years and have started again with a brand new set.

Why? Not really sure. I had become dissatisfied and the first cut I felt didn't go far enough. Now I have sisterlocks which are just about 2 inches in length max. It's amazing how fast you forget what the beginning was like. Now I'll be taking the journey alongside many of my wonderful clients.

I went home to Ghana last week to see my mum who has turned 78. We had a wonderful time with my twin sister Ama and family friends. Look at the contrast between me and Ama's hair.
One thing I know for sure I'll never ever NOT have sisterlocks.

My New Look The BC!!

Call it mid-life crisis or what, I don't know, but after I washed my hair this week I took the scissors and you can see the results. I've been dissatisfied with locks for a while and this is the first phase of eventually cutting them off to start a new set. My hubby who was away on a work trip had a shock on his return(as did the kids when they got back from school). I had already forgotten about it so met him all smiles. He says it's taking him some time to get used to it. He did agree to take photos though. I'm loving it. So easy to take care of. The color I had refreshed a while back it just got "redder" with the summer sun. What do you think?

We couldn't have had a better way to reconnect than to see Chris Rock's movie Good Hair and our meetup tonight was just great.The film I felt was well done in the usual Chris Rock irreverent yet "real" style. His daughters, bless them are sweeties. He hit on some serious issues we women have with hair and image. If you haven't seen it already, please go.
Lovely to meet old friends like Sophia and Michelle and to make many new. We had a great turnout too. I'm sure many of you will recognize Meikmeka What a surprise and pleasure to see her. When she rsvp'd yes on the meetup site, I thought it must be a mistake.

Roz's hair texture with its hints of gleaming tawny color, make sure heads turn wherever she goes. Note the bottom left photo taken when her retightening was only partially done. Roz has particularly fine hair with a loose curl pattern.

I was shocked to find out today that I haven't blogged in over a month - sigh, I'm so behind. I wonder how the prolific bloggers manage it? It's a real struggle for me to keep up. I acknowledge regretfully, that the updated blogs get far more frequent visitors.
Anyway I've been so busy with my clients - new and old and yes, Sisterlocks continues strong despite the recession, I always tell my clients. In fact, I think I can go as far as to say it's fairly recession-proof. March Photo Shoot - 5 years

So Matt agreed to do a little photo shoot today so I could show some long-overdue updates. I wrapped myself in a kikoyi for the first photo. My hair: I roller set the front half of my hair with soft spikes Saturday night and two-strand twisted the bottom half since I was feeling too lazy to do it all. I retouched my color a couple of weeks ago. Nina and I had a giggle at the end.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Well what do you you know? We heard the weather forecast for snow but dismissed it as absurd. After all it's March 1. After a very wet weekend, I could swear the weather was warming up. Turns out I was wrong. Snow and rain began falling halfway through church, but by the end of service, the world was covered in white. The kids couldn't wait to get out - and don't laugh, snow is a rare commodity in Atlanta.
Soila and Nina built a snowman in the front garden with the help of ever patient dad.

The Atlanta Sisterlocks Meetup is ONE YEAR old and guess what? I didn't realize it until I got a message from Meetup. I started this group to bring together women who have Sisterlocks and other tool-assisted locks. I wanted an informal way for those researching sisterlocks and long-time sisterlocks wearers to meet, share their journeys, swap products and tips, and also to spread the word for their consultants.
The year has flown by so fast and we now have 153 Lye-free and locked up gals. It's been such a great way to meet other natural sisters. It's amazing how it's come along.

Meetup Jan 31:
We had a wonderful meetup last weekend, but since I had forgotten the anniversary I didn't mention it. We met at Lattetude - a cosy coffee bistro in Decatur. ( Many thanks to my client Ronke, who suggested it). I give the venue a big thumbs up.
A lot of new members turned out and it was informative and fun. Thanks everyone. We missed those who couldn't make it and we must celebrate our anniversary next month. Look at Sophia's blog for extra photos. There are a few more on the Meetup site too, in the photos file. The photos taken on my iphone came out so badly as the light was poor.

I've recently discovered wonderful hair products by Arbonne, a U.S company with Swiss-formulated products. I think it's the best kept beauty secret in the country. I'm especially in love with their Intelligence Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and Thermal Fusion Revitalizer line - a special blend of healing herbs and botanicals that helps guard against long-term hair loss. There's also a conditioner which is excellent, but I don't personally recommend for locked hair since it's a little on the thick side.

It's been such a blast being back at home. On Dec 20th it was my niece Kukua's 2nd birthday. We had cake, balloons and plenty of fun. Kukua, my sister Ama daughter, is getting Sisterlocks for her birthday. You can see how Ama's locks are growing and all of ours are getting rave reviews - even though we need retightenings badly!!

Back to Africa - On holidays

I'm back to Africa tomorrow for Christmas holidays. I'm so excited. I'll be seeing Ama my beloved twin, my mum and other family members in Ghana. Then we are off to London for a frosty few days in the New Year. We'll enjoy a Christmas feast while roasting in the hot sun...I know my sisterlocks won't let me down. I'll keep you updated.

Have any of you tried to freshen up your blog? Give it a blog makeover? New hair, new clothes, new lashes? If so, I wonder what the results were. Did it help to attract new readers or re-enthuse existing friends who visit the site often? Did it help to freshen your own enthusiasm for your own site? Or maybe no one even noticed.

As you can see, I'm in the middle of trying to revamp my own site. If truth be told, it's been a bit of a nightmare: long nights in front of the computer screen, wrestling with html code. Nothing I try seems to be working.

But bear with me. I'll get there. Come back soon and you'll find a whole new Amba's Sisterlocks Journey. And in the meantime, if anyone has any tips or helpful hints, please let me know.

Dialogue In The Dark - Are We "Blinded" By Sight?

This Thanksgiving weekend was made even more special (aside from my sister and her
family's presence) by our visit to an unusual exhibition called Dialogue In the Dark at Atlantic Station in midtown Atlanta.

The hour long experience offers the public "an experience that can change mindsets on disability and diversity, and increase tolerance."

Blind guides lead visitors in small groups through different settings in total darkness where they learn how to interact without sight by using their other senses.

At the beginning of the exhibit - after removing anything that could emit light like watches and cellphones - our small group was taken into a room where we sat on lighted cubes on the floor. We had been given canes and a brief lesson on how to use them. Then the light in the cubes was gradually dimmed until we were left in pitch black and the exhibition began.

We went through a garden where we could hear birdsong, touch grass and plants. We went to a store where we felt bread and coconuts and other produce. During the city scene we heard cars and experienced crossing a street with a cane - it was an unnerving and disorienting experience.

But the amazing thing was that the guides - who were blind - would make sure we were all together and safe. They encouraged us along.

It was as though they could see.

The final room was a bar. We bought drinks in the dark. Before we went in they told us: take only two $1 bills. You hand over the money in the dark and are given change. If we hadn't had the single bills there is no way we could know what money to give.

My mother is blind and it helped me to see that blind people can enjoy themselves. One sense is cut but you have four others. I got a heightened awareness of sound, touch and the other senses. I never knew what the bar looked like but I felt the counter and saw the seats we were sitting on in my mind. If anything, I got a sense of peace.

At the beginning of the exhibition it was frightening, but by the end I felt kinship with the other people in our group and new found respect for the guides.

Even so, being blind is hard.

At the end of the "Dialogue" you go into a transition room where the lights come on gradually. It was good to see the light again. The hour had flown past but it was unforgettable.

Like many other filmmakers who applied for this, I was required to submit to them three ideas for a short documentary (10 minutes or less) that examined various aspects of black masculinity. Of the three ideas I had, NBPC chose the one that was actually a last minute idea.

We had our November 15 Natural Meet Up - Goodies Galore!!!

This was definitely one of our best meetups ever. We had such a wonderful time and for those who missed it I just have to say - too bad! We met at a AsiaThai restaurant instead of California Pizza Kitchen but that actually worked better.
I went despite raging laryngitis and cough but it was really worth it.
Sophia our wonderful assistant organizer brought along lots of take-away goodie bags that I said it was like being on a mini Oprah show hee hee. The bags had lovely organic and all-natural hair and skin care products. We shared our journeys and also had a talk from Jane Carter Solutions rep Jamese Cox who also gave away plenty of goodies.
To add to the goodie bags, I brought along samples of Arbonne's wonderful plant-based line for hair.

I still haven't come down from the clouds after last week's amazing elections.
Well, I was going through my keepsake copy of the AJC the day after the elections when what do you know? There was a quote from one of my latest client's Lakieshia taken from her at Ebenezer Baptist on election night.
"We want to be here to to see history in the making. I mean being here is much bigger than watching it on TV," she said.
Well I was so excited that I put the paper down, called her up and asked was that you? It sure was!!! Yay!! Wish they had had her photo as well. Check out her blog for her progress. She comes for her first retightening on Friday. And she's loving her Sisterlocks.

She moved away from our area just after we had her installation so I have only seen her once and she's been going to another consultant. You can see the growth already. Sorry bloggers for being so abysmal about updating. My hands have been soooo busy with many new clients. (God is so good to me :)
My husband just got back from the Democratic National Convention and of course I asked him what he'd brought me. My favorite among the huge bag of goodies was this t-shirt of Michelle Obama - a lady of class, distinction, intelligence and beauty. What a lovely first-lady she'd make I think. I'm not American, but can't help being caught up in this most unique election.
Meanwhile - still loving my Sisterlocks after 5 Years this month!!! This photo is definitely not a glam shot - taken early in the am on the front steps, no make-up, totally freestyle. Will post update pics after I wash and set. I also had a color touch-up last month to cover the ever-intruding gray.

Aaah The Beach...

Contemplating Short Sisterlocks

For a while I've been contemplating cutting my Sisterlocks short or even starting again. Why? A bit of frustration with its current length and general dissatisfaction with the way its responding to color and self retightenings. Seeing recently-installed clients Miss A (pictured with me in the top photo) and Jabreka(bottom photos) rocking their short Sisterlocks with pride, gives me added incentive. Jabreka actually got herself a fade cut in between her follow-up retightening and first retightening. Hey presto! I was like...wait a minute? You've shaved off hours of my careful work? However her new look is fierce although we needed a 7 hr session to reinstall all the unravelling.
Hmm....check back and see what I decide to do.

Meetup 4 -La Madeleine

Here we are at our fourth meetup June 28th which was a summer brunch. We really had a great time. There were plenty of Sisterlocks in all stages of development from new, new born babies(4 days old Sisterlocks) to 4 plus years. There were also a number of ladies interested in Sisterlocks in attendance so we had a lot of questions and first-hand sharing. Thanks for all who made it. On splitting Sisterlocks, thin hair and locking

I've been so busy over the past few weeks with my phone ringing regularly and my appointment book getting almost full. I thank God so much for my wonderful clients and transfer clients.
Did you know that Sisterlocks that are too large can be split? It's a long process but I am doing that for one client of mine. When we are done, her already abundant head of locks will be even more so. But well worth it. But it'll back to bundling and banding for a while.
Sometimes for one reason or another Sisterlocks are made too large and then splitting comes in. I'm even in the process of splitting quite a number of my daughter Soila's locks. Because she had her Sisterlocks put in when she was only 3 and a half and her head and scalp surface are still growing, some of her sisterlocks(which were medium and large) to start with, have become thick and bulky. (She's 5 now). It's for this reason some consultants suggest putting micros(the smallest size locks) for kids. But I am totally against that- It's way too much torture for them to sit down even if it's spread over many sessions.
I'll be posting photos of a few of my new clients in my album soon.
One of them, whom I'll call Miss A, has had issues with thinning hair caused by repeated coloring of her traditional locks she had for many years. She also went through months of tight braids and weaves prior to gettting her Sisterlocks.

Many women with this problem wonder whether Sisterlocks would work for them. Blogs by sisters like Helga and Funmi are sure proof that when we stop messing around with our hair and leave it alone, we will be surprised at the new growth and thickness we can achieve. Hooray for Sisterlocks!!

Finished! Tele's Locked Up

Stone Mountain Atlanta Sisterlocks Meetup

We had a great time Saturday evening, our third Atlanta Sisterlocks Meetup at Stone Mountain Park. The weather was hot and steamy, but the lovely breeze at the top made it worthwhile. We chatted and joked as we went up. My kids went along as did Angela's. (mentioned in the post just before this). My hubby who always acts as photographer, came along too and had a blast.We all voted to do it again soon. Big thanks to Sophia, Onyxcherry and Angela. Sophia and Charanor, who look like sisters, according to my daughter, have attended every single meetup to date and Angela has only missed one. We missed everyone who couldn't make it, but know that this weekend was a big one for graduation ceremonies, weddings and the like. Note Tele in the last photo (on the left). He's due to have his long-awaited brotherlocks installed next week, first week of the summer holidays, as promised. I'll be sure to update with his photos. Don't our Sisterlocks look great blowing in the breeze? - and of course, we didn't have to worry about spoiling our do's. Lovely!

One of my best client's Angela, came by today. She had such a lovely updo that I couldn't resist taking photos before she took it down to show me how she got the look. To create the effect she made a series of bantu knots held up high with a band and left the back to cascade down. Gorgeous!!

Hello everyone!
It's been a while since I updated so here's some of what I've been up to:
Well, I'm building up a client base and my phone's been ringing quite a bit these past weeks. (Amazing what being listed as a certified consultant does for you).
Last week I had 2 retightenings and a new installation(took me a whopping nearly 24 hrs). Another consultation this week and retightenings for next.
My Mother's Day was so sweet. The girls woke me up with breakfast in bed helped by Dad and then we went to church.
I did have a retightening in the afternoon, but we had a special sushi supper.
A belated Happy Mother's Day to all mums and even more thanks to God for this pick up in my business. I'm particularly grateful to all my transfer clients for trusting me.

The Atlanta Sisterlocks Meetup had its second meetup yesterday chez moi. We had eight in attendence, much smaller than anticipated from the rsvps, but we had a good time sharing and talking about our Sisterlocks journeys.
I'm always amazed at how no set of Sisterlocks looks alike. We discussed differences and similarities and swapped products tips and experiences.

Hooray!!Today after three weeks of daily checking, I finally see myself listed on the Sisterlocks Home Office site as a bonafide, CERTIFIED Sisterlocks consultant. Celeste Geary of the Home Office who handles evaluations of consultants applications notified me a while back, but, to date, I had not seen my name on the certified consultants site. It's taken me a bit of a while - I took the consultants class in 2003, but put things on the shelf while I had a new baby and moved continents twice. However, I submitted my paperwork last June, and am finally proud and soooo pleased to get my certification. I'm so excited and thankful to God. I'll be offering a special deal for my first new clients as a certified consultant. Please call or email me for details. We had a wonderful class. In fact there were 2 classes - the largest ever group in Atlanta. We had 4 days of very informative, hands on training from Sisterlocks Master Trainer Denise Dixon-Robins and Certified Training Associate Wanda Washington. I made a ton of lovely new friends. I'm taking a SISTERLOCKS Consultants Refresher Class next month and I can't wait. It will be my second refresher. They are a great opportunity for consultants to review and refine their technique, meet the most wonderful Master Sisterlocks consultants and get answers to niggling questions(especially troubleshooting). We also get to make new friends. In addition to being able to sit in for the complete training sessions, you can have tailor made refresher classes where you can focus on a specific aspect of the Sisterlocks technique. And all for the price of only $75.00
I count myself particularly lucky this time because Dr. Joanne Cornwell herself will be participating in some of the training. I think every consultant/consultant trainee should take regular refresher classes.

Here are a few shots of me and the girls. Nina's hair(photos 1 and 3 ) is settling nicely. She's had her Sisterlocks for about 3 months now. I retightened both girls' heads last weekend (the first for Nina since she had them put in so you can imagine the growth) and will post photos of those when I can get her to sit still. Soila's hair is 16 months. These photos were taken last month.

Low maintenance. I must admit that for me was a key attraction in considering Sisterlocks. What's easier than putting a scarf over your head at night, sleeping then simply running your fingers through in the morning? This wavy freestyle braidout has held since I washed my hair on Sunday night, braided it into about a dozen plaits and removed the braids Monday morning. I did wear my Tomokatwists to vary it for a couple of days but otherwise nothing else. What freedom!!

I've been tagged(thanks Knotsnlocks)but oh dear, although I'm terribly pleased, I'm scratching my head to think of 6 non important/quirky/random facts or habits of mine to share and to find anyone who has not been tagged already. Hmm...here goes...
1. I love sea food, especially lobsters and giant prawns, cherries and creme brulee.
2. My fantasy would be an eight week-long world cruise with my hubby, kids, mum and sisters(and their kids and husbands) stopping in the Caribbean, South Pacific and Italy(with a stop in Milan for shopping). No diets, no work, no schedules and unlimited spending money.
3. The Chronicles Of Narnia are my absolute favorite books in the world. Can't wait till Prince Caspian comes out in May.
4. I talk to my 2 sisters almost every day(they are are my best friends). We are separated by thousands of miles but thank God for skype, or there'd be a hell of a phone bill to pay.
5. I'm a fan of the tv series "24" even though I find Jack Bauer loathsome. I don't have the patience to watch it week by week, I buy a season at a time and stay up all night for 3 days in a row to finish it.
6. I love board games like scrabble, monopoly, draughts and ludo.

The Atlanta Sisterlocks Meetup Is Born - Calling all Sisterlocked Atlantans

A big hi to everyone and here's a little announcement:
Well, I've taken the plunge and started a meetup specifically for anyone interested in Sisterlocks and other tool assisted locks in the Atlanta area. It's something I've been mulling over for ages but hadn't gone beyond the thinking stage.
I'd love to link up with other like minded sisters with Sisterlocks, nappylocs and other tool-assisted locks, to share our experiences and journeys. I'd specifically also be looking to bring together consultants -trainees and certified, for exchange, sharing, mentoring etc. Most of all, I'd hope we'd have fun, make friendships and create a real resource pool for those of us who have embarked or are contemplating locking as a way to wear our hair natural.
Why limit your group to Sisterlocks and tool locks some may ask? Because that's my experience and I am so totally in love with mine. I know there are other groups with a wider focus and I am glad for them. I believe embracing our God-given natural hair can be done in many ways. But my path has been the Sisterlock path and I'm looking for like-minded sisters and brothers who are interested in sharing this.

Well it's finally done. Here's Nina with her 3 day old Sisterlocks. It took all of three and a half weeks as she's a very fidgety girl and I didn't want to put pressure on her. We did a tiny bit every day, (or not) as she chose. But she loves her new hair to bits and is so proud that she has hair like her sister Lala and mummy. I'll do some better close-ups in her next set of photos.

Here are a few pics of Nina taken the day we started her Sisterlocks installation. Her hair has a long curl pattern and is very soft but very, very elastic with a high shrink factor. She would not even allow me to comb after I washed and conditioned. She's too tenderheaded.

Well it's finally happening! Daughter number 2 is getting sisterlocked. Yesterday I finished the last of the front two sections of Nina's hair - many lollipops and one new barbie mobile phone later.(3 days of 2 30 min sessions). I'm giving her medium and small. Now there are 4 other sections to go.
I'll be posting pics as soon as I can get her to sit. The whole process I am doing totally at her pace. So will take a week I suspect. I'm thinking up new bribes.
She's the most tender headed baby I've ever met and if she isn't complaining while I put in the locks( it's sitting still which bugs her), it means Sisterlocks don't hurt when they are being put installed.
Nina HATES having a comb in her hair and hopefully this will help to resolve our hair battles. She has the softest blackest hair with a long curl pattern(almost straight in the front) yet very very elastic and shrinky, if you see what i mean?

Best For Sisterlocks -The hook or the clip?

Reading Sophia's recent posting about her retightening experiences in Atlanta and a few other blog comments got me thinking.
Which Sisterlocks tool is best: the hook tool or the clip?

First of all, Sisterlocks consultants are taught to use both tools during the training course. The Sisterlocks system, as we all know, was meticulously designed by Dr Cornwell with much thought about the tools which would produce the locking results that we all know and love.

BOTH tools were intended and designed for starting and maintaining Sisterlocks and each have their strengths. I think consultants choose their preferences and also take their cue from their trainers.

During my initial training in New York (Joanne herself participated in that) there was no particular emphasis on either tool - we were told to "master both". Since then I have met consultants and trainees who preferred one over the other for various reasons. At a refresher class I took this year, the trainers made their preference for the hook tool clear. Hence comments like "if you can't use the hook tool you don't know what you are about." Well I believe personal preference takes the lead. My sisterlocks were installed by a wonderful consultant in the DC area who used only the clip tool. Her locks, which she'd had for 4 years at the time, were gorgeous and mine were installed excellently. My sister Ama's sisterlocks were put in in London by a consultant who favors the clip tool. I've never thought to question as the results spoke for themselves.

Now there are instances where the clip tool is not so great (on the ends of thickish locks for instance) or when the hair is too short, or fragile and I believe there are other instances as well and yes it gives you a heck of a sore thumb!!, however, use of each tool demonstrates the skill of the consultant and used CORRECTLY, there is no reason why it should harm your Sisterlocks. I personally have had my hair damaged by rough use of the hook tool.

For the record, my preference was for the clip tool right from the start especially as a self-retightening tool. I don't think one should put down consultants who prefer this tool over the hook if they are working professionally and correctly. (no snags, no lumps, bumps or pain).

Thoughts on...Starting Sisterlocks From The Back

In the same way, we are trained to install Sisterlocks from the FRONT of the head which I've always strictly adhered to. Some consultants however, choose to start in the back, but still get excellent parting/sectioning results. They use care and attention to detail and follow the locking patterns. The main reason for starting in the front is because that is the most important section of a client's head. You logically need to focus your highest energy levels and attention to detail there. After 10 hours of work on the back of a client's head, you might not approach the front with the same energy out of sheer tiredness. What can I (or anyone) say against a consultant who starts at the back yet still has beautiful, even partings and sectioning in the front contrary to the standard Sisterlocks method?
This is not intended to start a debate on the issue in any way because there is no "right" answer in my opinion. The Home Office is the final authority on that.

Thoughts On..."Bad" Consultants

To Sophia in particular(and anyone else who has had bad consultant experiences) I say please don't be put off by negative experiences you've had. We do have choice - well at least most of us do- and you can and will find another more suitable consultant. The beauty of the Sisterlocks system is the individuality of each person's locking journey. Mistakes for the most part can be ironed out, reversed and corrected by an experienced consultant if caught in time. Find another consultant and also take the time to let your consultant know if you are not satisfied or if her behavior or practices are substandard. Some consultants will do better with constructive criticism if they are told I'm sure. As a consultant trainee (who has submitted documentation and paperwork for certification and is awaiting a verdict from the Home Office), I so realize the importance of keeping to the high standards of our Sisterlocks training. It is our advertisement to the world. At the same time it can be daunting, especially for newer trainees to be under the spotlight of clients who have extremely high expectations.
My rule of thumb is find a consultant whose work is good, with whom you have a connection, who has the right attitude and you are sorted. And always find yourself a back up!!

Mother and Daughter. Thoughts On Swimming with Sisterlocks

After taking the pics of Soila, I thought I'd let hubby take a shot of us together. I think it's great to have her all locked up and she simply is great about retightenings. As I said in the post before we had just finished retightening which was quite a job because of the length of time we had left in between and because she swam nearly every day this summer.(we have a pool). Neither she nor I use a cap for swimming
a) because I can't find one that fits snugly over our locks and my big head and
b) because we tore her very first swim cap trying to put it on her head.
It didn't do much harm I don't think, except for extra swelling and puffiness on daughter's locks. Mine are totally locked. I was slightly worried about the effect on my hair color but really I haven't noticed any greeness. I always rinse my hair and Soila's after swimming but do not necessarily wash because we swam most every day in the summer often twice daily. I prefer a once-a-week wash because I have dry hair. What do other frequent swimmers do to protect their Sisterlocks? Any thoughts? I also deep conditioned once a week. Anyone know of good swim caps for lock wearers?

Here at last are a few long promised photos of our daughter Soila(affectionately known as Lala). Her Sisterlocks are now exactly a year old. DH took the pics this evening after the last section of her hair was retightened. Lala is four and has wanted hair like mummy's ever since she could talk. She sat patiently while I locked her hair last year over a period of a week or was it 10 days doing only a little bit at a time so as not to wear her out. She wears them with pride.

I haven't kept up with this blog for so long. It's disgraceful. Period. I've turned over a new leaf and am going to pick it up again, inspired by my twin sister. I must say I was really embarrassed to find out because I got swamped with moving here, settling and all and as Maryee said READING blogs can be so addictive. In my case so addictive I forgot to update my own!! Anyway, please all give me another chance and stay on the journey with me. Update -2: Compare the Sisters

Isn't it annoying the fact that you can be genetically identical to a person yet your hair grows differently? Ama and I both have Sisterlocks and granted, she had hers a year and a half before mine, BUT... hers were at least two inches shorter than mine when she started AND she had relaxed hair on the ends. Mine was all natural.
I've given up hoping mine will catch up.....

The first photo was taken in Ghana this Easter. The second was taken last Thanksgiving when Ama came to pay us a visit.

I swear I don't seem to much difference in my length, since then. It must be the humidity and the hot tropical sun in Ghana which does her hair so much good...

After many months of absence I have taken a vow to make sure I update my blog regularly. I really admire the veterans who manage to accomplish this.
My last blog entry was to tell about our relocation to Hot 'Lanta where my sisterlock journey continues unabated....
We have settled in well and love our new home. I have made many new friends and recently new Sisterlocks consultant friends and that has been wonderful...Well I'll be posting a ton of photos but let me start with this latest.
Yesterday(Sat 09/15) and today, myself and a group of Sisterlocks consultants led by veterans Wanda Washington and Calla Johnson manned a booth at For Sisters Only - an annual fun-filled event showcasing African American businesses and entertainers, beauty and hair care. We had a blast!! There was a lot of interest and response with tons of questions. Many women were seeing Sisterlocks in the flesh for the first time after having believed all along they were extensions!!
Here are a few photos. Yesterday -group photo - Myself, Sharon and Natalie. Today(day 2), Calla (who sports stunning red sisterlocks) styled my hair on the platform into this elegant chignon!!

Hello,
It's been simply ages since I last posted. I don't know how or what, but there's been sooo much going on in my life that I NEVER seem to have the time. I have the greatest admiration for bloggers who keep updating regularly. (especially those with kids).
Well, my sisterlocks journey now finds me based in Hot 'Lanta, where my husband has been transferred. We moved here mid-July so it's been all of four months now and I LOVE it!!
Atlanta is soo green and the city is so different from London. The weather has been fab. My sisterlocked twin came to visit for Thanksgiving and we had a wonderful time. Her hair is growing like a weed- so is mine for that matter. I'll post some pics for you. Hurray for sisterlocks.
Now the family is pretty much settled, I'll be looking to start working on getting some sisterlock clients. I've also become an independent beauty consultant with MaryKay cosmetics

The snow photo is of me, my husband Matt and the girls on holiday in Switzerland in February (my Sisterlocks held up!! No hassles).
Next is me and my twin sister taken in Jan this year(she's also sisterlocked see my last post) in Ghana after our dad passed away. The last photo is our son Tilay and Nina, the youngest, in Paris a couple of weeks ago when we took a short break. So there's the family.

The Journey Continues

So I promised I would do some updating and here I am at 00H15 in the morning trying to do just that. It's been a looong day but guess what? I still love my sisterlocks 33 months old now..
As I said in my first post, I live in London and have been trying slowly to build up a client base- not easy with three kids(nine, three and one) smile. But it's been great these past nearly two years.
My routine for my sisterlocks is really simple - freestyle most days. At night I sleep in my LB soc...
I wash every fortnight because I have really dry hair and put a light application of almond oil on my scalp. Since the winter, I use Sisterlocks reconstructor or moisture cream after every wash to counteract dryness and leave my hair feeling softer. Here are some pics....
This shows my hair a year ago shortly after the birth of our last daughter Nina Silole. Notice how thick the locks are...they've condensed much more now.
