Contemplating Short Sisterlocks

Posted by Picasa

For a while I've been contemplating cutting my Sisterlocks short or even starting again. Why? A bit of frustration with its current length and general dissatisfaction with the way its responding to color and self retightenings. Seeing recently-installed clients Miss A (pictured with me in the top photo) and Jabreka(bottom photos) rocking their short Sisterlocks with pride, gives me added incentive. Jabreka actually got herself a fade cut in between her follow-up retightening and first retightening. Hey presto! I was like...wait a minute? You've shaved off hours of my careful work? However her new look is fierce although we needed a 7 hr session to reinstall all the unravelling.
Hmm....check back and see what I decide to do.
Psst: Our next Atlanta Sisterlocks Meetup is on coloring Sisterlocks. Don't miss it.

Short I can understand but starting over completely? I think your locks look great even with all that coloring because my coloring created bunching, loosening, re-plaiting the bottom half of loose locks etc. and I was dissatisfied as well but i've learned to live with it.

I told a friend that I would let my locks grow out long enough to the point that one day I would cut off the bunched ends.

Whatever you decide in the end I know will look great on you. That cropped look w/ the locks looks fierce on your friend.

I'm loving Jabreka's style!! I too have been contemplating cutting my Sisterlocks but I also want to see how long my locks can get. I think all the heat is making me want to just shave my head...

I love the short styles. Seeing them at the meet-up just was so freeing. However, I love your locks Amba and the story they tell. I feel your face is pretty enough to carry off any look.

OMGoodness!

Ms. Jabreka is flyyyy! If you want it short, cut it I guess, if length is not what you want right now. I think it could be cute.

Otherwise, just wait it out. This feeling could be just because it's that mid length...not super long, not super short... and once it gets even longer you may be extremely satisfied with that. You can always cut it then...

Ooh yes, her locks DO look fierce short! I have also been contemplating a cut, not so much cutting the locks off, but cutting them back into a style. Whatever you decide will be gorgeous, and it is great that sisterlocks do give you the freedom to experiment with different looks.

I am glad that SOMEONE (and a consultant herself) has finally acknowledged that short Sisterlocks are beautiful. Funny how a lot of blogs boast length as if it is the only standard of beauty. Isn't the reason we lock to redefine what society has told us is beautiful? Long locks are beautiful. Short locks are beautiful. Go Amba, do your thang girl!!

I can understand your desire to go short. I've had my locks for 7 months now and I still dream of my short fade. However, the investment has been to great to cut them at only 7 months. I thing Jabreka's hair is the BOMB!!!

short sisterlocks are fabulous! I agree with the person who said that sisterlocks styles are suppose to redefine the image of beauty handed to us by society. Sisterlocks do not have to be long to be beautiful! I fear that many sisterlocks wearers are attracted to this style because of the length that can be achieved. I must point out to them that length is not typical of African-type hair and this yearning for it seems very Eurocentric. Let us try to appreciate our hair for what it is without trying so hard to mimic that of our anglo counterparts.
